Alan Eve (Phakisa) is an intelligent racer (most of
the time) with tons of experience under his belt and
can never be discounted. Likewise Brian Algar (Thuthuka
Welding) is always near the front and a win can’t be
far away and the same applies to Dave Beattie who is
another driver quite capable of winning as the DURA
backed car is always competitive.
Thomas Reib (Intertrans Oils) can’t be ruled out of
the winners circle either. He won his first Shelby
Can-Am race at Zwartkops last year and wants nothing
less than another win.
Durban’s JP Bredenhann (PanelRite) is fast and
drives with commitment. Although he wasn’t seen last
year, he finished eighth in the 2007 championship
even though he missed most of the season..
Colin Frost (Strocam Engineering) has always gone
well at Zwartkops while Dutch racer Bertil Hofmann
(IOU Music) has a point to prove after an incident
packed race at the track last year. Both drivers
could surprise the established front runners this
weekend.
Also not to be discounted is Craig Shorter (Execuline)
who has a tough job juggling racing against business
commitments, but when he is on the track he gives a
good account of himself.
Hanno Pengilly (Azura Retreats)
has been one of the finds of the season so far as he
split Frost and Reib to claim ninth place in the
opening race at Killarney. Although Durban’s
Sun Moodley (Big Foot Express) only started racing
last year, he’s also getting faster with each race.
Capetonian Greg Walker (Simon’s Outsourcing) had an
impressive debut in a one-off drive in Cape Town and
will take over Sean Greve’s Vulcania Reinforcing
backed car as Greve has business commitments.
Richard Wood and Harry Roscoe (Protea Playing Cards)
are stalwarts of the sports car racing scene and
both race simply because they thoroughly enjoy the
thrill of close competion. Another enthusiastic
Durban driver is Andrew Strike who made his circuit
motorsport debut at Killarney.
Former front-runner George Ferreira makes his return
to motor racing having not raced since 2002 when he
was runner-up. His progress will be watched with
keen interest. |
