Arena Showdown

Saturday 10 October
will see the battle for the Goldwagen Challenge
Championship continue when the VW tin top gladiators
head for the tight confines of the Zwartkops Raceway
outside of Pretoria for the penultimate round of the
2009 Pro Tour Road Show. With four different classes
racing and a large field expected on the day loyal
fans can expect the usual brand of close and
competitive racing.
Class A
Lee Thompson (Gallardo IT / Interfile Golf I) has
maintained his thirty point lead over Wayne Masters
(Jonnesway / Elite Autobody Golf 4) after the pair
shared the spoils at the previous round. Quentin
Thompson (Thompson’s Volkswagen Golf I) has jumped
into third position with Ray Wilford (Fuchs
Lubricants Golf II) a further five points behind him
in fourth.
George Economides (Wealth Avenue Golf I) has dropped
down to fifth position in the points table after
missing the previous round and is a mere two points
behind Wilford. Andy Gossman (Auto Pro Roodepoort
Golf II) holds onto his sixth position and is a
further eight points behind Economides.
Class P
Defending Class P champion Jakes Jacobs (Polo
Classic) continues to cement his position at the top
of the points table. After only scoring one victory
at the previous round he still holds a comfortable
thirty seven point lead over Ryan Tholet (Prend
Properties Polo Hatch). Clayton Le Roux (Martin Le
Roux Motors / Paintcor Polo Classic) has leap
frogged Wouter Roos (Performance Laboratories Polo
Classic) into third position but only has a single
point advantage over Roos.
Peet Visagie (Time Mining Polo Hatch) continues to
hold onto fifth position despite missing the last
couple of races. Barry Groenewald (Custom
Technologies Polo Classic) has also missed a few
rounds but continues to hold onto sixth position. He
needs to start worrying about the newcomers behind
him though, in the form of Mohamed Dangor (Speedy
Car Sales Polo Hatch) and Deon Holliday (Polo
Classic) as they have closed the gap down to ten
points behind Groenewald.
Class B
Young Dean Lester (Lester Properties Golf I) has all
but sown up the Class B title. After two convincing
victories at the previous round he has increased his
lead to thirty one points ahead of veteran racer
Peter Thompson (Thompson’s Volkswagen Golf II). Greg
Gossman (Marty’s Body & Spray Golf I) has now jumped
into third position in the standings and is a
solitary point behind Thompson.
Quinton Needham (Ultravision / Thrashcorp Golf I)
has moved up to fourth position and is twelve points
behind Gossman. Eben Rothman (Freddie’s Autospares /
Fram Golf I) has dropped down to fifth position
after missing round seven but is still only four
points behind Needham. Derek Minnie (Demac Auto Golf
II) continues to climb up the points table and is
now a solitary point behind Rothman.
Class C
The Class C battle is as close as ever after Jannie
van Rooyen Snr. (Goldwagen Roodepoort) and defending
Class C Champion Elna Croeser (Giulio Sabbatini Auto
Stylists Golf I) shared the victories in round
seven. Van Rooyen now holds a narrow four point lead
over Croeser. Deon van der Watt (Infraset / Truss
Pty Ltd Golf II) continues to battle with the set up
of his new car and has dropped down to third
position after leading the championship earlier in
the year.
Young Giles Darroch (PMT Civils Golf I) continues to
have his fair share of mixed results and finds
himself fourteen points behind van der Watt in
fourth position. Fifteen year old karter Charl
Smalberger (Sabertek Golf 1) continues to impress
with his results and is a further eighteen points
behind Darroch after only a handful of races.
Newcomer Andre Needham (Ultra Vision Golf I) has
jumped into sixth position after two polished
performances in Lichtenburg.
Overall
Lee Thompson continues to lead the points table and
looks set to clinch the Overall and Class A titles
if he continues to score podium positions in the two
remaining races of the season. Class P leader Jakes
Jacobs still finds himself in second position and is
now twenty one points behind Thompson. Wayne Masters
has narrowed the gap between himself and Jacobs and
is now only nine points behind in third position.
Class B leader Dean Lester continues to hold onto
fourth position and is thirteen points behind
Masters. Ryan Tholet has now secured fifth position
and is a further fifteen points behind Lester. Class
C leader Jannie van Rooyen Snr. is the last of the
class representatives and is now nine points behind
Tholet.
Our loyal and dedicated sponsors continue to support
this winning formula - Goldwagen, Wynns, SS
Telecoms, Sabertek, Norbrake, Eduardo Construction,
Time Mining, Rapid Motion and Speed & Sound Magazine
– without them and the dedicated Pro Tour team, the
continued success of this premier Road Show would
not be possible. |
